We Real Cool. We Left School.

Thursday, August 27, 2009

Today Lizbeth (my cousin/good friend) and I skipped our college class to do a mixture of exploration and relaxation. Our friend Luis was the chauffeur and constant comedian as we made our way through the day. I can't help but remember the poem "We Real Cool" by Gwendolyn Brooks. I think it's the perfect poetic soundtrack to what were today's adventures. In Three-Six-Five I wrote about how Lizbeth & I named today Operation Ditch. Not because it's a big deal or anything, but instead because Lizbeth & I like wasting a lot of what should be study time. Our destination was the downtown area of the city where my college is located. We like it because of its charm and the diverse selections of shops, restaurants and hang out spots.

What I'm wearing: tank belongs to my Mom, belt is miscellaneous, distressed boyfriend jeans from A&E, wedges from Payless, and the hidden earrings from F21.

We discovered one of the coolest hang out niches in the area. It's a small, environmentally friendly frozen yogurt place with a great open atmosphere. One of the owners was kind enough to give us a tour and explain how things worked. Oh, and those chairs not only looked cool, they are really comfortable.

Biodegradable spoons made out of potato!

My favorite wedges (just because).

The owner told us these were "for the kids and the kids at heart".

Almonds, cheesecake bites, and white peaches topped my frozen yogurt.

On our way to the next destination.

Below is the almost endless collection of incense at a shop called Strawberry Alarm Clock. Lizbeth & I bought our fair share and were even pleasantly surprised when the owner gave us a free strawberry stick (we had good luck with owners today).

The misfits and the driver who looks a bit wiped out. Poor guy, he endured all the waiting as Lizbeth & I went from clothing store to clothing store. Don't feel too bad for him though, he was rewarded with Taco Bell ;).

I fell in big fat LOVE with this dress.

But I didn't fall in love with the bit fat price tag.

All in all, today was very enjoyable. Tomorrow it's back to college classes and hour long lectures. I'm really looking forward to attending the Anthropology Club's first meeting of the semester though.
Hoping you had a lovely day,

Sounds like a great ditch day! Thanks for sharing lovely photos of it. I very much would like to eat that potato spoon. And that dress is greattt, but not worth THAT much!
